WIELICZKA SALT MINE

Believe it or not, the ancient salt mine in Wieliczka is the oldest operating business in Poland – it opened as early as the Middle Ages!

It’s been one of Poland’s greatest treasures: for centuries the salt mined here was the source of the wealth for the country (once salt served as money!),
and today it’s one of the most popular tourist attractions.

This underground marvel is made up of almost 300 km of shafts and 3000 chambers,
3.5 kilometres of which you walk with a guide.

So, go down to as deep as 135 metres underground and join the incredible number of over a million tourists who visit the place a year!

Beautiful chapels, breathtaking underground lakes and well preserved traces of mining work will help you get a grasp of the old-time miners’ lives, their work, passions and beliefs.

There are dozens of statues and bass relieves carved in salt by those simple but gifted people!

Having walked all the distance, you’ll get a chance to stretch your legs in a complex of chambers 125 metres below ground level.

There are souvenir stalls, a restaurant and … a post office, so that you can send your love from this amazing underground world!

The mine is often a venue for conferences, banquets, wedding receptions, New Year’s balls, concerts or sports events.

The guests are frequently accompanied by the legendary characters of the mine – the Treasurer and Princess Kinga.

Wieliczka is an absolute must!

You’ve got to see it with your own eyes.

The mine makes such an incredible impression that this must be the reason why so many tourists choose to come to see it.

Important!

The temperature in the mine is stable, around 14°C, so take some warm clothing with you when you come to see the mine on a hot summer day.

Not surprisingly, smoking and any use of open fire is strictly forbidden in the mine. Electric torches are not allowed in as well.

REVIEWS:

"We went to the salt mines at Wieliczka, which lies several hundred feet beneath the earth. Tour guide and a Driver in one was OUTSTANDING. Amazing knowledge and great fun. Wieliczka itself is filled with entire chambers of fascinating sculptures, even chandeliers, made entirely of salt crystal and salt rock. It was intriguing! "
